See below important information to know before visiting the Champion Lakes Regatta Centre
Toilets
Onsite there are 2 (two) standalone accessible bathrooms located on the bottom floor of the main building, by the main bathrooms. These both have installed assistive railing and a shower. One of the bathrooms has a seat under the shower, whilst the other has a change table in it. The outside of the door of both bathrooms are inscribed with braille, denoting them as accessible bathrooms.
Parking
There are 2 (two) permanent ACROD bays located onsite, along with 18 normal sized bays within the same paved carpark located within close proximity to the main building. Please note these are regularly filled by para-athletes using the venue as a training facility and do fill up quickly, so accommodations are made to provide extra where possible. For example, this parking is restricted during regattas to stop vehicles from driving through crowds. We create temporary bays on the island where there is compact gravel and hard sand/grass, but again please note these also fill up very quickly.
Lift/Ramp Access
There is a lift located inside the main building that provides access to get up into the second floor of the main building, where the function room is located. This is only unlocked if the function room has been booked. The venue has one ramp into the bottom floor of the finish (viewing) tower. The second and third floors of the finish tower have stairs only. These floors are not accessible to the public, there will only be an issue if an Official/Commentator have accessibility requirements. These floors are the only area where stairs are located and not accompanied by a ramp or lift.
Seating
There are no seating arrangements provided for spectators. There is a small viewing platform at the base of the finish tower, accessible by a ramp from the paved path at the base of the tower. Unfortunately, some organisers close this off for a variety of reasons. Should a person wish to use this area while it’s closed off, they will need to discuss with the client directly on the day. The balcony of the function room can be used as a viewing platform that includes seating, however, this is only accessible for wheelchairs via the lift inside, which is only unlocked if that room is booked.
Access around the venue
There are 11 (eleven) kilometres of paved pathing in and around the main buildings and complex. These paths extend to and go around the buildings and around the lake. We technically have 2 (two) pedestrian paths around the lake, one called the Events Paths, the other being a shared path which goes in and out of the residential area at times. The Events Path is occasionally closed for regattas and duo/triathlons. However, the other path always remains open.
Service Animals
Service animals are more than welcome in and around our venue. In the interest of our patrons who utilise service animals, we believe for the safety of both the animal and the patron it is necessary to make note that the premises is highly populated by other animals and wildlife, especially around the lake. Wildlife such as various species of birds and long neck turtles are frequently found on or near paths and may be a hazard. It is also worth noting that many patrons unfortunately do not pay attention to the signs around the venue prohibited dogs off leash and let their dogs off, causing issues. We are actively working on this issue.
Assistance
If any assistance is required when on site, please be aware there are Venue Supervisors on hand between 7am and 3pm, Monday through Friday and during events that are more than happy to assist with any issues you may have, pending capacity and requirements of request.
