Swimmers in Perth’s north ready to dive into Arena Joondalup’s new pool
Construction of Arena Joondalup's new 50m lap pool is nearing completion.
- Construction of the new 50m pool at Arena Joondalup is nearly complete
- The pool will open to the public for the first time on Friday 27 February
- A celebratory Family Fun Day will follow on the 2 March Labour Day public holiday
- Part of the Cook Government’s commitment to delivering the infrastructure and services Western Australians need.
Swimmers in the northern suburbs will soon have the chance to make the most of Perth’s newest swimming facility as construction of Arena Joondalup's new 50m lap pool nears completion.
To celebrate the opening, Arena Joondalup will host a Family Fun Day on Monday 2 March. The day will feature pool activities, food and entertainment and the chance to explore the new facility.
The $13 million project, funded by the Cook Government, was designed to meet the needs of Perth’s growing northern suburbs for decades to come.
The new lap pool is competition ready for WA’s most elite swimmers, boasting 10 lanes, starting blocks at both ends, upgraded timing equipment and a deepened shallow end.
A submersible dividing wall will allow the pool to convert to short-course mode with 20 lanes, provide multiple water polo fields or accommodate a range of aquatic sports and activities.
Accessibility upgrades include an access ramp and stairs for independent entry and exit, upgraded changing rooms and universal access toilets.
Safety has also been enhanced through the installation of AI-powered drowning prevention technology in both the new 50-metre pool and the recently refurbished family leisure pool. This system is the same technology credited with saving a swimmer’s life at Inglewood Leisure earlier this year.
Visitors will also be greeted by an entry statement art piece created in collaboration between Arena Joondalup staff and Aboriginal students from St Catherine College, complementing the contemporary design of the pool hall.
