Seventeen-time Grand Slam champion, Roger Federer will make his debut at Perth Arena in January for the 2017 Hopman Cup season.
The world No 3 returns to Western Australia for the first time in 15 years and is excited to be playing at the venue for the first time.
“I like to play in new places. It is always really exciting, so I can’t wait,” Mr Federer said.
“I thought on TV it looked great, the atmosphere seemed really nice, the stadium looked fantastic so I’m looking forward to playing in that environment.”
“I think it will be a perfect tournament for me to start the season,”
With a retractable roof, permanent inlayed tennis court in the arena floor, large internal spaces and thoroughfares, and with the capacity to hold more than 12,700 patrons for a single tennis match, this is the perfect venue in Perth to hold a tournament that is expected to be very popular with fans.
VenuesWest CEO David Etherton said “the atmosphere at previous Hopman Cup’s has been extraordinary, however with the best tennis player of all time expected to play at our venue, the atmosphere will be electric.”
“Perth Arena was designed to be a world class venue for Western Australia to deliver experiences that would surpass many in the world, and with a world class athlete choosing our venue to play, the venue’s success is evident,” he said.
“We are very privileged and proud that the Perth Arena will host Federer, who has won 88 career singles titles, one gold medal and a Davis Cup crown so far in his glittering career. Western Australian tennis fans are in for a treat.
