Hopman Cup 2016 is shaping up to be one of the best in the event’s 28-year history with teams from France and Ukraine joining the line-up.
- Ukraine’s first appearance at Hopman Cup since 1995
- France hoping for second Hopman Cup title
- Proudly supported by State Government through Tourism WA
Entertaining Frenchman Gael Monfils will team up with rising star Caroline Garcia, while Ukraine’s top-ranking male tennis player Alexandr Dolgopolov will join forces with world number 18 Elina Svitolina to represent their country.
Teams already announced are Great Britain featuring Heather Watson and world number three Andy Murray, and Australia Gold with retiring Lleyton Hewitt and Perth’s own Casey Dellacqua.
Welcoming today’s announcement, Tourism Minister Kim Hames said tennis fans were in for a treat when the Hopman Cup kicked off on January 3.
“With some of the biggest names in tennis already signed up, and more exciting players to be announced in coming weeks, Hopman Cup 2016 promises to be one of the best,” Dr Hames said.
“The event has thrived since moving to Perth Arena in 2012 with innovations such as the $10 tickets for children making it even more popular and affordable for families.”
The Minister said the State Government was proud to be a major and founding sponsor of WA’s famous international tennis competition through Tourism WA.
“The State Government’s support of the Hopman Cup started when the tournament began in 1989 and thanks to a new agreement signed last year, the event has been secured for Western Australia until 2022,” he said.
“Events such as the this form an important part of the State Government’s strategy to grow the value of tourism to $12 billion by 2020.”
More than 95,700 fans visited Perth Arena for Hopman Cup 2015 which featured nine world top 20 players, including four top 10 competitors.
