On 18 October 20 years ago the Sydney 2000 Paralympic Games were declared officially open by the Governor General Sir William Deane.

The games ran 18 to 29 October 2000.

Of the 632 strong Australian team, 21 were our own Western Australian athletes competing in eight sports.

We are incredibly proud that our very own Paul Clohessy, SpeedDome Venue Supervisor competed in four cycling events, claiming a Bronze in the 1km Track Time Trial and a Gold in the Track Sprint. An incredible achievement!

We celebrate the success of all athletes as they competed on the biggest sporting stage in the world.

20 years ago VenuesWest had four venues, today we have 13, supporting more high performance sports and more WA athletes as they strive to compete at the highest levels.
