Minister for Sport Terry Waldron MLA announced today that the landmark agreement to operate the new VenuesWest Perth Arena was about to be signed with world leaders in sports and entertainment AEG Ogden.
There has been a year of negotiations over operational and facilities management of WA’s world class entertainment venue.
“It is an important milestone to have this contract confirmed and signed so that AEG Ogden can get on with planning entertainment, staffing and management of Perth Arena, which is now on a countdown to completion.
“AEG Ogden is a world class venue operator with skills and a large network to attract top national and international events.”
“AEG Ogden is part of a global family of facilities, which includes iconic venues such as the Staples Centre at LA Live, London’s 02 Arena, Shanghai’s Mercedes Benz Arena and a network of Asia Pacific venues including Acer Arena at Sydney Olympic Park and the Brisbane and Newcastle Entertainment Centres.
The company already had a strong presence in WA through the management of the Perth Theatre Trust Venues, which includes His Majesty’s Theatre and the Perth Concert Hall.
When complete, The Perth Arena will have a capacity for 15,500 people which will include more than 500 in hospitality suites and is capable of being configured for a great many modes creating flexibility for a variety of events and functions.
Mr Waldron said the new iconic facility is due to open in 2012.
