The Venues West High Performance Swimming Program sent six athletes representing the Arena Swim Club through to the National Championships conducted in Sydney over the last week. This championship was doubling as the selection meet for the FINA World Championships to be conducted in Shanghai, so the level of competition to make semi finals and finals was fierce as athletes strove for national team selection.

The athletes that made the trip for the eight day competition were Bobby Jovanovich (21), Gianna Leone (19), Jason Dickinson (18), Rhiannon Dielesen (18), Kacey O’Connell (17) and Ben Lindsay (17) all of which represented VenuesWest and Arena Swim Club very well indeed, securing two finals appearances, seven semi-final swims and 15 personal best performances.

"This was a great meet for our athletes, they showed the maturity and determination that is required at this level of competition. They took a significant step forward in their development and are looking to learn from the experiences of the week, get into some hard work as they begin preparations for the winter short course season, and ultimately the Olympic Trials next year." Paul Bruce, High Performance Swimming Coach.
