Swimming Etiquette

Pool Rules

To ensure a pleasant and safe swimming experience for all patrons please abide by the following pool rules.

Choosing Your Lane

• As a rule the outside lanes are for slower swimmers
• As a rule the middle lanes are for faster swimmers
• Don’t be offended if a lifeguard asks you to move to another lane
• During peak periods water running lanes are not available
• During peak periods certain stroke lanes may not be available

Swimming Etiquette

• Keep left in the lanes at all times
• Only overtake if safe to do so
• To pass, swim past on the right, above the lane line on the bottom of the pool.
• Do not swim two abreast in a single lane
• Check both directions before moving across any lanes
• When waiting at the end of the pool, stay in the corners of the lane so other swimmers can continue swimming laps
• If you require assistance at any stage signal the lifeguard for help

Evacuation Procedures

• In the event of an evacuation alarm wait at the end of the pool for instructions from a lifeguard
• Follow the Lifeguard’s instructions at all times

Watch Around Water

Our VenuesWest Aquatic Centre is an accredited Watch Around Water centre meaning there are policies that must be followed whilst visiting us:

• Children under 10 must be accompanied into Arena Joondalup and constantly supervised by a parent/guardian whilst on the premises.
• The parent/guardian must have a clear view of the child at all times.
• Children under 5 must be constantly supervised from within arms reach at Arena Joonalup. If the child is in the water, the parent/guardian must be in the water too.
• Unsupervised children (of any age) will be removed from the water if the lifeguard is concerned for their safety.

These policies form part of a national initiative and are in place to ensure the safety of all patrons when visiting VenuesWest Arena Joondalup. Supported by Royal Life Saving and LIWA Aquatics.

Remember, a swimming child should never leave your sight.
