How to Apply

Permanent Recruitment Process

The recruitment and selection process for each position is unique, however here is a general guideline of what you may expect when applying for a position with VenuesWest. If you are not successful at the end of the selection process you may find it useful to phone the contact person in your notification letter for feedback to assist you in applying for future positions.

Step 1: Submit your application on time

At this point; you would have considered the vacant position to determine if you are what we are looking for and if the position will suit you. Your application is to provide us with enough information for us to consider what you can offer us against the work related requirements (selection criteria) listed in the job description and advertisement. Please read the application instructions carefully to apply correctly. Your application must be submitted by the closing date.

Step 2: Short-listing

A selection panel will review all applications received and assess them against the selection criteria to make a list of the candidates that most suit the advertised position. If you have been successful in making the shortlist, you can normally expect to be contacted to arrange an interview within two weeks of the closing application date.

Step 3: The Interview

Face to face interviews are usually conducted with a selection panel consisting of the person who would likely become your direct supervisor, a Human Resources representative and, in some cases, a third independent person. When we contact you about the interview we will advise you of the selection panel member’s details.
The interview is a chance for us all to meet in a non-threatening environment. You will be asked a number of questions that are related directly to the requirements of the position you are applying for (selection criteria).

Step 4: Referee checks

If you are one of our preferred candidates, two reference checks about your ability to do the job will be conducted with referees who have previously worked with you. If you are an interviewed candidate, it is advisable that you inform your referees to expect possible contact from us.

Step 5: Decision time

Lastly, we gather all the evidence we have collected throughout the entire process from beginning to end, and determine the candidates who have proven to meet the selection criteria. Where there is more than one suitable applicant we will assess the individuals against the work related requirements as well as the business and diversity needs of our agency. We may in some cases also request a further interview, technical skill testing or work placement medical assessment.

Step 6: Position offered

The position will be offered to the preferred applicant and the candidate is given the opportunity to accept or decline the position.

We will notify all applicants in writing of our final decision normally within one week of the conclusion of interviews including those applicants who did not get shortlisted.

Step 7: Feedback

If you are not successful at the end of the selection process you may find it useful to phone the contact person in your notification letter for feedback to assist you in applying for future positions.

Please be advised that the Public Sector Management (Breaches of Public Sector Standards) Regulations 2005 were amended on 1 November 2008. Under the previous regulations agencies were required to provide unsuccessful applicants with a 10 day period to lodge a breach claim in relation to the recruitment process. Under these new regulations the agencies have the opportunity to opt for a shorter breach claim period.

As a result should you be an unsuccessful candidate you will only be provided with 4 days following the end of the recruitment process to lodge a breach claim. Should you wish to source further information on this now you may access the information page available a.

Casual Recruitment Process

The recruitment and selection process for each position in VenuesWest is unique so this is a general overview of the casual recruitment process.

Registration - Registering for general casual employment:

We keep a continuous database of applicants interested in gaining casual employment with VenuesWest. If you are interested in working at any of our venues as a casual employee, you are able to register on this database. As casual opportunities arise, this database will be searched and suitable candidates contacted. If you do not gain employment within three months of registering, this may just mean that no opportunities arose during this period (especially as some positions are seasonal/sessional).

Advertised positions – Applying for an advertised position:

From time to time we also advertise specific casual positions. These are always advertised on the WA Government Jobs Board. Those who have registered on the casual recruitment database will be notified of advertised casual positions as matched to their profile.

Using the Government Jobs Application Site

Once you have logged in, you can create a “search profile” in ‘My Jobs’ section. Select the type of positions you are interested in and ensure you select ‘Yes’ to be emailed job notifications. To be only notified of jobs available with VenuesWest, please select “VenuesWest” in the Agency section.

For security reasons, the JOBS WA session will time-out after one hour, it is therefore recommended that you log on before starting your application and click ‘save’ at least every half hour. If the system does time-out, then you will able to log in and continue your application. If you do not log in and the system times out, you will have to start your application again.

Please do not leave your application to the last minute. If there are several people submitting their application in the last few minutes prior to the cut off time, delays will occur and your submission may not be included, so it is recommended that you do not leave it until the last minute.

It's best if you write your responses to the Application Questions in Word (or similar) first. There is no spell or grammar check on the Jobs WA system.
